The theme for World Tourism Day 2022 is “Rethinking Tourism” at the 24th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) which will be held on November 30 – December 3, 2021 in Madrid. Since 1980, the World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day every 27 September. This day was chosen because on the same day in 1970, the UNWTO Articles of Association were drafted. The drafting of these Articles of Association is considered a benchmark for world tourism. September 27 was chosen as World Tourism Day because it coincides with the end of summer vacation in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of summer vacation in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Meaning and Purpose of World Tourism Day
The celebration of World Tourism Day aims to raise awareness of the important role of the tourism sector in the international community and to demonstrate the positive impact of the tourism sector on social, cultural, political and economic aspects of the world.
This year's celebration of World Tourism Day carries the theme "Rethingking Tourism" which will be rearranging quality and sustainable tourism. As for the series of celebrations for the 42nd World Tourism Day, various events will also be held. Including discussion panels with various stakeholders with the concepts of “Rethinking Tourism as a Key Element on Recovery” and “The Tourism We Want” led by representatives from the tourism sector in Bali.
In addition, to enrich the celebration of the 42nd World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will hold a series of Road to World Tourism Day 2022 programs that involve tourism stakeholders throughout Indonesia.
